Juhal, Dharamshala: A Peaceful Offbeat Place Near Khanyara

A quiet local place near Khanyara with village roads, water streams, mountain views, and a slow peaceful vibe.

Hi, my name is Rahul. I am a digital nomad, indie maker, and traveller.

I have been living in different parts of Dharamshala for quite a long time, and Juhal is one of my favourite offbeat places around Dharamshala. Whenever I am short on time but still want to visit a nearby place with a good vibe, I usually come to Juhal.

Sometimes, I simply come here to have coffee or chai, chill for some time, and then go back home. But sometimes, I bring my music, hot water, and coffee sachets, make my own coffee, and sit here for a long time.

Juhal is one of those peaceful local places in Dharamshala that many tourists may not know about. Located around the Khanyara side, it is known for its calm village vibe, natural surroundings, water streams, and picnic-style atmosphere.

Where Is Juhal Located?

Juhal is located on the Khanyara side of Dharamshala in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. It is a small local area surrounded by village roads, natural views, and peaceful surroundings.

Unlike popular tourist places such as McLeodganj, Bhagsu, or Naddi, Juhal is not a highly commercial spot. It is more of a quiet local place where people come to enjoy nature, water streams, and the slow village-side atmosphere of Dharamshala.

Juhal is close to Khanyara Road, which makes it easy to visit from Dharamshala town by bike, scooter, or car. Depending on your starting point in Dharamshala, it can be reached within a short drive.

The route itself gives you a glimpse of the local side of Dharamshala, with mountain views, small settlements, and peaceful roads along the way.

Why Visit Juhal?

Here are some of the reasons why you can visit Juhal:

  • You like quiet and less-crowded offbeat places.
  • You want to enjoy an open mountain view with the peaceful sound of flowing water.
  • You want to have chai or snacks with a good view.
  • It is a sunny summer day, and you want to take a dip in cold river water.
  • You want to sit quietly while dipping your legs in the water.
  • You want to enjoy a small picnic with friends.
  • You want to spend some time walking in nature.

For me, Juhal is not just a place to visit. It is one of those simple local spots where you can slow down, relax, and enjoy the peaceful side of Dharamshala.

How To Reach Juhal?

If you are already in Dharamshala, reaching Juhal is quite easy. But if you are staying in McLeodganj, Naddi, Dharamkot, or any other nearby tourist area, then first you need to come towards Dharamshala.

From Dharamshala, you can search for Juhal on Google Maps and follow the route. The road is simple to follow, and you can reach there by bike, scooter, or car.

Juhal is usually around 3 to 5 km from Dharamshala, depending on your exact starting point. In normal traffic, you can reach Juhal in under half an hour.

Is Juhal Good For Tourists?

Juhal is not a commercial tourist attraction like Bhagsu Waterfall or Naddi View Point. You will not find big cafes, ticket counters, or tourist activities here.

It is more suitable for people who enjoy quiet local places, village roads, natural water streams, and peaceful surroundings.

If you like offbeat places and want to explore the local side of Dharamshala, then Juhal can be a nice short visit. But if you are looking for a proper tourist attraction with facilities and activities, then this may not be the right place for you.
